Bellisario’s Farewell Salute

Sources at both TVGuide and Variety are reporting that showrunner Donald P. Bellisario will be stepping away from his series NCIS. Bellisario is the creative genius behind the series and others such as the long-running JAG, but apparently he’s a bit too intense for his own good.

Series star Mark Harmon reportedly threatened to walk out on his hit series if Bellisario didn’t walk first. Harmon, who is

notoriously easy going, was apparently pushed to his limit by Belilsario’s chaotic management style which included micro-managing every detail of the series.

Well, it’s not like the man will be out of work. He has a multi-year contract with CBS and is reported to be developing several new TV series as we speak.

It will be interesting to see how Bellisario’s move will effect the series, if at all.

After this many years on TV, I imagine they can work well enough without Bellesario checking every word on a script. I would think the actors would have enough of a handle on their characters to know if something was wrong with a line or a story.
