Earlier on Thursday, the South Carolina Democratic Party decided to keep Stephen Colbert’s name off the ballot, saying that he didn’t meet the national standard of viability and didn’t seem to be campaigning to win. Plus,

the state party would have had to pay $20,000 to the state election commission to have Colbert’s name on the poll. $20,000 is an terrible lot for a drawn-out joke.
